60-year-old man killed, three injured in targeted attack near Lucknow | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: A 60-year-old man lost his life and three others sustained injuries in a targeted attack allegedly fueled by political rivalry in the outskirts of Lucknow late Friday night.
The deceased, identified as Anant Ram Yadav, succumbed to gunshot wounds, while his associates Ram Bilas Rawat and Chhotu Rawat suffered gunshot injuries. Additionally, Jaikaran Rawat narrowly escaped with pellet injuries, said the police.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Zone, Durgesh Kumar, the victims were returning home from a tilak function held by one Ram Kumar Lodhi in Rani Kheda village when they were ambushed by a group led by Monu Rawat.Monu, accompanied by his associates Gyani Lodhi, Bablu alias Ritesh, and Kishan, opened fire on the unsuspecting victims. “Anant Ram lost his life on the spot, while three others sustained injuries,” stated DCP Kumar, hinting that the incident was driven by underlying political tensions.
Further elaborating on the motive behind the attack, DCP Kumar revealed that Monu Rawat, a former PRO to Union Minister and BJP MP Kaushal Kishore, had backed Gyani Lodhi for the Pradhan position. However, in the election, Anant’s brother Ram Pal Yadav emerged victorious from Ranikheda, igniting a bitter rivalry between the two factions. “We have detained several suspects in connection with the incident, and efforts are underway to arrest the main culprits,” assured DCP Durgesh Kumar.
