7 Of 9 Mim Candidates Made Poll Debut In Ghmc Elections | Hyderabad News – Times of India

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has fielded candidates from nine assembly constituencies, including on its seven sitting seats, in the Old City for the November 30 elections.
Except party floor leader in the assembly and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and Karwan MLA Kausar Moinuddin, all the remaining seven candidates in the electoral fray are either former corporators or present corporators of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The contribution of the candidate to strengthen the party, work done by the corporator or councillor of the local body and loyalty to the party leadership and the AIMIM are the main factors for elevation from the local body to the assembly contest in the AIMIM.
Even AIMIM former president and six-term ex-MP Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, father of the present president of the party Asaduddin Owaisi, had started his electoral politics as a corporator from Mallepally municipal division.
Though some of the candidates were given ticket to contest assembly election without climbing up the ladder from local body electoral politics, it is gradually becoming almost a norm in the AIMIM that more and more corporators, based on their work and loyalty, are getting tickets to contest assembly polls.
Of the nine candidates who have filed their nomination, Malakpet three-term MLA Ahmed Balala, Nampally legislator Jaffar Hussain Meiraj, who has been fielded from Yakutpura constituency this time, is a former corporator and had served as deputy mayor in GHMC. Likewise, Mir Zulfeqar Ali Khan, who has been fielded from Charminar assembly seat, has earlier served as mayor of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. The debutants for assembly election, including Majid Hussain who is in fray from Nampally, Mir Zulfeqar Ali Khan from Charminar, Mohammed Rashed Farazuddin from Jubilee Hills, Swamy Yadav from Rajendranagar and Mohammed Mubeen were all elected as corporators in the 2020 GHMC election.
Even the two veteran MLAs, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and Ahmed Pasha Quadri, who have been dropped this time, had started their political careers as municipal corporators.
