A 7-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree arson after allegedly setting fire to his parents’ home while they were sleeping inside. cbs news informed of. The incident happened in Jackson County, about 40 miles northwest of Charleston.

A picture of a house engulfed in flames was shared on Facebook by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in West Virginia. The department has said in its post that the child deliberately set the house on fire along with his parents. Police said two people in the house suffered minor burns, but everyone in the house escaped with minor injuries. Officers took the child into custody and charged him with first-degree arson.

Giving details of the incident, the police department wrote, “This evening a 7-year-old juvenile has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson after intentionally leaving a parent sleeping inside at a family home. Two individuals suffered minor injuries, but all made it out of the house alive. Due to the sensitive nature of the matter, no further information regarding the investigation will be released.
