Guwahati: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Friday informed the assembly that eight FIRs have been filed and two cases have been referred to CBI in connection with the February 15 mob arson in Churachandpur where the offices and residence of district deputy commissioner and SP were torched.
Singh said 20 perpetrators have been identified in connection with the violence in the district.
A 300 to 400-strong mob stormed the offices of the deputy commissioner and police superintendent, pelted them with stones and vandalised them before setting them on fire. Two from among the mob were killed in firing by security forces and at least 25 others sustained injuries.
He said two cases have been handed over to the CBI for further investigation upon getting video evidence regarding the involvement of armed militants in the incident.
