9-year-old crushed to death by BJP MP’s car in Lucknow, case registered against ‘unknown’ driver

According to the locals, the MP did not even turn up to pay his dues.

Uttar PradeshA nine-year-old boy was allegedly killed by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s SUV in Basti district on Sunday. Police further informed that a case has been registered against the unidentified driver of the SUV. Class II student Abhishek Rajbhar was crushed to death by the SUV of local BJP MP Harish Dwivedi near Hardiya petrol pump in Basti district.

The boy was referred to the trauma center in Lucknow but he succumbed to his injuries. The police registered an FIR on Sunday evening after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral. Basti Superintendent of Police Ashish Srivastava said an FIR has been registered against the unidentified driver of the BJP MP’s SUV for rash and negligent driving or riding on a public way and investigation is underway.

“We will not spare the driver driving the SUV, who carried out the incident. Two vehicles of the BJP MP have been seen in CCTV. A CO rank officer is probing the matter. Postmortem of the boy has been done.” has been done,” he said.

The victim’s father Shatrughan Rajbhar said that despite the MP and his vehicle being clearly visible in the CCTV footage recovered from the spot, no action has been taken by the police against the BJP MP or the driver so far. According to the local people, the MP did not even reach to console the family.

Meanwhile, the 87-second CCTV footage recovered from the spot shows two SUVs after the incident, in which the bumper of one SUV was also damaged, police said.
