(Reuters) – ByteDance, the Chinese parent of TikTok, has delayed the roll out of its shopping platform in the United States, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The app is facing mounting pressure in Washington, including calls for a ban by many in Congress who fear its US user data could end up in the hands of the Chinese government.

The report added that the delay from early spring to June could prevent sellers from onboarding the shopping platform due to concerns about the future of the short-form video platform.

TikTok said in March that it had 150 million monthly active users in the United States, up from 100 million in 2020. It did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Last week, the video platform said it was launching a product that would pair advertisers with content created by premium publishers, who would share half of ad revenue.
