Seven killed, three injured in Kishtwar accident. India News – Times of India

Jammu: Seven workers of the under-construction Pakal Dul Hydel Power Project were killed, while three others were injured when a vehicle fell into a 300-feet deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Wednesday.
Kishtwar SSP Khalil Poswal The cruiser vehicle was carrying 10 workers after a change of shift when the accident occurred near the Dangduru power project site in Dachan area, said the spokesman. Six passengers died on the spot, while another critically injured laborer succumbed to his injuries during evacuation. The remaining three workers who were injured in the accident were shifted to Kishtwar District Hospital for specialized treatment.
Two of the deceased workers- Itwa and Rahul-were from Jharkhand while others were from Jammu-Kashmir.
The police registered a case and launched an investigation, while dismissing social media rumors that the banned People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a Pakistan-backed terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the accident. SSP Poswal said, “The news circulating on social media claiming responsibility of road accident of a vehicle at Dangduru in Dachan by disruptive illegal organization PAFF is fake.”
Meanwhile, according to Ghulam Nabi Azad, president of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party and former J&K CM, the locals have alleged that the construction company was using old transport to transport the workers and the safety of the workers was not provided. Equipment was not being provided, which led to such accidents. “Therefore, I demand adequate compensation to the families of the victims by both the company and the government as well as an inquiry into the allegations,” he added.
Condoling the tragedy, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh tweeted, “Spoke to DC Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav about the unfortunate road accident at Dangduru dam site. The injured are being shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar or GMC Doda as per requirement. All possible help will be provided as per the requirement.”
