Trinamool Congress has warned the central government against this Agnipath schemealluding to the fact that Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abeo Was murdered by a short-service ex-serviceman.

The party claimed the killing underscored the potential pitfalls of the controversial defense recruitment programme.

The state BJP, however, dismissed the apprehension saying that no Indian ex-serviceman was involved in any such incident.

TMC mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla’ (Wake Up, Bengal) said in an article on Saturday, “Abe’s death at the hands of a former soldier testifies to people’s fears about the Agneepath scheme.”

It claimed that the attacker lost his job in the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force after serving three years and was not receiving any pension.

The article states that even firefighters will not get any pension after the end of their four-year service period.

“BJP is playing with fire in the name of Agneepath scheme… we have seen what has happened in Japan. A former soldier killed the former prime minister,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said on Sunday.

The BJP said such apprehensions were baseless.

“We have never heard of any such incident involving an ex-serviceman of our country. TMC is just trying to politicize the matter,” said state BJP spokesperson Samik Samik Bhattacharya.
