Adipurush in big trouble after fresh complaint filed over poster of Prabhas, Kriti Sanon starrer

Adipurush, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is slated to release in June.

The makers of Adipurush had unveiled the poster in question on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.

The new poster of the film has landed in a major trouble after a police complaint was filed in Mumbai against the makers of Adipurush for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

According to a report in India Today.co.in, the complaint against producer, artist and director Om Raut was filed at the Sakinaka police station by Sanjay Deenanath Tiwari through Mumbai High Court advocates – Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra. The complainant described himself as a preacher of Sanatan Dharma.

The complaint states that “The religious sentiments of the Hindu Dharma Samaj have been hurt by filmmaker Om Raut by inappropriately depicting the character of the Hindi religious text Ramcharitmanas in the new poster of the film.”

According to the complaint, the poster depicts “Maryadapurushottam Lord Shri Ram in costume contrary to the natural spirit and nature of the Ramcharitmanas as described in the Hindu scripture”. The complainant further claimed that Adipurush shows all the characters of Ramayana “without the sacred thread”. Janeu has special importance in Hindu Sanatan Dharma, which followers of Sanatan Dharma have been following for many centuries on the basis of Puranas.

The makers of Adipurush unveiled the poster on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, a festival celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Rama. In the new poster, Prabhas and Sunny are seen dressed in armor and dhoti with a bow and arrow. Kriti is dressed in a simple sari with her head covered, while Devdutt is seen bowing down in the service of the three.

Promoted as a film celebrating the “victory of good over evil”, the multilingual Kaal saga Adipurush is an on-screen adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana. The poster comes days after production houses T-Series and Retrofiles announced the new release date of the film starring Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janki, Sunny Singh as Shesh and Devdutt Nag as Bajrang. Directed by Om Raut, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist Lankesh.

Earlier, Adipurush courted controversies including the portrayal of Hindu deities and the shoddy quality of visual effects when the teaser of the magnum opus was launched in October.

The makers were also slammed for the apparent Islamization of Lankesh over Saif’s look as the demon king, who was seen sporting a beard and buzz cut.

The film was initially scheduled to hit the theaters on August 11, 2022, but the release date was further pushed to January 12, 2023. Adipurush is now all set to hit the screens on June 16, 2023 in 3D.
