Adipurush will change the controversial dialogues. Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Adipurush Dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla considers it just a matter of five lines. He wrote on social media, “I wrote more than 4,000 lines as dialogues in Adipurush, out of which some sentiments were hurt on five lines.” The jury is still out on whether it’s five lines or more, but the fact remains that Adipurush’s dialogues have evoked strong reactions from audiences, politicians and film critics alike since its release last weekend.
The film has been widely criticized for showing divine characters – especially Hanuman – speaking lines in what the film’s makers call colloquialisms, but many moviegoers have been found foolish. Bowing to the pressure, the film’s team on Sunday announced that the dialogues would be changed “giving importance to the inputs of the public and the audience”. The makers said that they are “re-thinking over the said dialogues, and it will hit the theaters in the next few days.”

We will review some dialogues: Manoj Muntashir
I wrote more than 4,000 lines as dialogues in Adipurush, out of which some sentiments were hurt on five lines. In those hundreds of lines where Shri Ram was praised, Mother Sita’s chastity was described, I was expecting to get praise for her, which I don’t know why I didn’t get. Nothing is more important to me than your feelings. I can give umpteen arguments in favor of my dialogues, but that will not ease your pain. I and the producer-director of the film have decided that we will review some of the dialogues that are hurting you and will add them to the film this week – Adipurush’s dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla on social media.

Why makers change after release
Although there are no recent examples, films that have seen post-release changes include films that were banned in some states or where the producers voluntarily made new edits. For example, Prakash Jha agreed to some changes in his film Aarakshan on the eve of release after Uttar Pradesh and Punjab banned controversial scenes and dialogues.
Whenever a film makes any changes, it has to take CBFC’s approval. Sometimes these changes are also made for the satellite or streaming rights of the film.

Filmmakers sometimes voluntarily seek revision after certification: CBFC official
Elaborating on the subject, a CBFC official says, “It is not uncommon for filmmakers – especially in the case of renowned directors and big-budget films – to modify dialogues and scenes. The latter voluntarily seek revision. On an average, we receive eight to ten requests from filmmakers from different languages. While the film retains the original certificate in theatres, any updated revision is endorsed on the back of the certificate.
SONGS WERE CUT FROM HUM AAPKE HAI KOUN! (1994)
Who am I to you! The initial response from the industry after the screening was not very positive. The film was even longer, running for 3 hours 26 minutes. In a recent documentary, the film’s producer Sooraj Barjatya said, “We did a screening for Hum Aapke Hain Koun! and that show was a disaster. However, Adi (Aditya Chopra) told me, ‘Dhai gaane katoge’. To Nikal Jayegi’. And to be honest, it was on my mind for the last five months. He identified the exact two and a half songs, which I deleted the next day.

Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy also changed films after release
film archivist and historian Shivendra Singh Dungarpur Shares that in the 50s and 70s it was quite common for filmmakers like Guru Dutt and Bimal Roy to revise their films if they felt the audience was not connecting with the story. Dutt reportedly re-shot Pyaasa’s scenes after its release and also removed a song. When Dutt went to a cinema showing Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam, he decided to re-shoot the climax after seeing the disappointed audience, but later changed his mind and did not change it. However, he removed Meena Kumari’s song towards Sahil and some dialogues. Similarly, Bimal Roy also changed parts of Devdas after its release.
