Air India on Tuesday finalized a historic order for 290 Boeing aircraft at the Paris Air Show, after IndiGo announced the largest ever aircraft purchase by an airline, along with an order for 500 narrow-body aircraft from Airbus. .

The decision to choose these models is in line with Air India’s strategy for sustainable growth announced by the companies in February.

The development came a day after IndiGo signed a multi-billion dollar deal to buy 500 narrow-body aircraft, making it the largest aircraft order placed by any airline with Airbus.

IndiGo said in a release that the latest order will ensure a continuous flow of deliveries for the airline from 2030 to 2035. Currently, IndiGo operates a fleet of over 300 aircraft, with deliveries pending for its current order of 480 aircraft.

IndiGo’s order comprises a combination of A320NEO, A321NEO and A321XLR aircraft.

The agreement follows Air India’s order placement for 470 aircraft with Airbus and Boeing less than five months ago.
