Soon after the Congress announced the Chief Ministerial and Deputy Chief Ministerial candidates in Karnataka on 18 May, both Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar tweeted: “We stand united to protect the interests of the people of Karnataka”.

The Congress party said that Mr. Siddaramaiah would be the next Chief Minister and Mr. Shivakumar would be the only Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Mr Siddaramaiah, who will take oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka on May 20, tweeted: “Pro-people, transparency, corruption-free administration will be given, apart from the implementation of all guarantees made by the Congress party”.

KPCC President DK Shivakumar, who will be the new Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, tweeted, “The secure future of Karnataka and the welfare of our people is our priority, and we stand united to guarantee it.”
