Alia Bhatt was to attend the IIFA 2023 Awards on Saturday night. However, she reportedly had to stay back in Mumbai because of her grandfather.

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt penned a lovely note after winning the Best Actress award at IIFA 2023. The actress received the award for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The prestigious award ceremony took place in Abu Dhabi this year and Alia was expected to attend it. However, the actress reportedly left the event as her grandfather’s health had deteriorated.

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Alia shared the announcement of her win and wrote, “Thank you so much @iifa. Sorry I could not be there personally to receive the award. Special thanks to the viewers for their continued support. This makes me and the whole team very happy!”

Hours before the ceremony on Saturday, several reports claimed that Alia Bhatt’s maternal grandfather, Narendra Razdan, was in critical condition at Breach Candy Hospital. According to Times of India, Alia Bhatt had reached the airport but changed her plans and decided to go to the hospital instead. Sources shared with the portal said, “(Razdan) has been at Breach Candy Hospital for some time now. He had a lung infection which worsened. In the morning the family got a call that the doctors wanted to shift him to the ICU. The decision was taken not to take him to the ICU, but to give him rest inside the room.”

The insider added, “Alia turned back from the airport because she didn’t want to go to the award ceremony, while her grandfather was going through a very rough time.” Alia and the Razdan/Bhatt family are yet to react to the report. ,

As for IIFA, besides Alia’s Best Actress win, Gangubai Kathiawadi also won more award at the awards show. These include Best Debut (Male) – Shantanu Maheshwari, Best Screenplay – Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Utkarshini Vashishtha, Best Dialogue – Utkarshini Vashishtha and Prakash Kapadia and Best Cinematography – Sudeep Chatterjee.
