AI-based surveillance cameras on the Almaty Dam | Hubli News – Times of India

Almaty (VIJAYAPURA): Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir, also known as Almatti dam, Its catchment areas are now receiving abundant water after abundant rainfall. In addition, it is also equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) based CCTV cameras.

These cameras can count the number of visitors and capture the face of each visitor, whether they come in thousands or at night.
D Basavaraj, chief engineer-in-charge of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited, dam area, Almaty, told STOI that the use of AI has been ongoing for two weeks and officials are using it to ensure dam complex security and visitor safety.

“The surveillance of the garden area includes 102 static cameras, three pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras and two panoramic cameras with 360-degree view. With this, we can track human movements in the garden area. Head counting cameras have been installed at the main entrance of the petrol pump area, Mughal Garden and musical fountain,” he added.
He added, “The use of AI is currently on a pilot basis, but so far, we have not found any black spots in the system. These CCTVs have 10 years of adaptability to install additional cameras and upgrade the technology in future. Along with AI-based monitoring, we can also include vehicle number plate recognition systems and advanced ticket counters.”
He further added, “These will work even if the power supply is interrupted for 4-5 hours and give clear images even during night. These cameras will play a vital role in preventing theft.”
Mohan Desai, managing partner of Hubli-based Somindra Marketing Company, which has provided technology to KBJNL, said a 55-inch screen has been installed in the control room to view activities on all 107 camera spots. AI can count and recognize faces. We have enabled this on 10 cameras installed at strategic points. By doing this, it is ensured that all visitors leave a specific location on time. This is the first of its kind on any dam in the state,” he claimed.
Social activist GC Muttaladinni remarked that it is an effective tool to monitor ticket counters.
“As of now, the authorities have no control over the number of tickets issued at the counters. The figures are whatever the contractor gives. These head counting cameras will increase the government revenue as well as the security level,” he added.
