AI companies have ‘moral’ responsibility to protect users: White House – Times of India

Washington: US Vice President kamala harris CEOs of major tech companies told a meeting on Thursday that they have a “moral” responsibility to protect society from the potential dangers of artificial intelligence.
“As I shared with the CEOs of companies at the forefront of American AI innovation today, the private sector has a moral, ethical and legal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of their products,” Harris said in a statement.
Vice President met in white House with CEOs from Google, MicrosoftOpenAI and Anthropic said AI “has the potential to improve people’s lives and tackle some of society’s biggest challenges.”
“At the same time,” she warned, “AI has the potential to dramatically increase threats to safety and security, violate civil rights and privacy, and erode public trust and confidence in democracy.”
Harris said that she and Pres. Joe BidenJoe briefly withdrew from the meeting, opting to “pursue potential new regulations and support new legislation”.
