‘ai Will Lead To Loss Of Individuality’ | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: Artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to loss of individuality, said noted filmmaker and theatre artist Prakash Belawadi. He was speaking on ‘visual media, achievements and challenges’ at the valedictory of Mangaluru Lit Fest organised by Bharat Foundation here on Sunday.
Belawadi said Geoffrey Hinton, who is considered as the godfather of AI, has said he regrets what he has done. “AI will lead to loss of individuality as it makes everyone understand a subject in a standardized way. Further, the danger is that in the future world, there will be no requirement of human beings. When a government offers schemes of electricity, transportation, food and entertainment, all for free, you will have to just sit in front of the TV or play games. In another 10 years, this scenario can be seen everywhere. We need to think about ways to resist it,” he said.
On the topic, ‘the point of view of cinema’, he said it is different from literature.
“Cinema begins with space editing. Each frame in a cinema is an edited space. Every object in a frame speaks and it may alter the story too,” he said. Parameshwar Gundkal also spoke on the topic while Divya Karanth moderated the programme.
