Ajit ahead of Sharad Pawar in the numbers game: Know how

Maharashtra’s politics has heated up ever since senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state on Sunday. Ajit Pawar along with 8 other MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government and claimed control of the Nationalist Congress Party. The rebellion within the NCP has sent shockwaves through the politics of Maharashtra, where a similar development was witnessed last year with the Shiv Sena.

The factions of both Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar have claimed control of the party and on Wednesday the two leaders called meetings at different places to show their might.

Ajit Pawar is ahead in the numbers game

NCP sources claim that Ajit Pawar is clearly ahead in the numbers game with the support of 35. NCP MLA In the case of MLCs out of total 53, 5 out of 8 were present in the meeting called by Ajit Pawar.

Sharad Pawar has a good rapport with NCP workers who gathered outside his residence before the meeting, but only 13 MLAs and 3 MLCs were present during his meeting. In the meeting, Sharad Pawar expressed his control over the party and its election symbol.

Ajit Pawar needs the support of 36 MLAs to avoid disqualification under the anti-defection law, according to the former secretary of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
