All 148 Civic Body Schools In City To Get Borewells; Tenders Floated | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: In a bid to address the water shortage plaguing the city corporation schools, the civic body has decided to set up borewells at all the 148 schools run by it.
Corporation commissioner M Prathap said they had decided to set up borewells at the schools as it would eliminate their need to depend on the corporation for water. The corporation has already floated tenders seeking a suitable agency to create the facility. “Soon all schools will get a dedicated borewell,” Prathap said. He said some schools were having borewells, they were defunct. “They could not be flushed and brought to use again. Hence, the civic body has decided to set up new borewells,” he said.
Presently, Prathap said, water was being supplied to the schools through corporation workers. “However, the supply is insufficient, and schools run out of water by noon. Students find it difficult to use washrooms due to lack of water. School headmasters had recently approached me and demanded that the water be supplied to schools twice a day to address the shortage.”
The city corporation is also taking measures toprovide all the required facilities to the schools.
With admissions to the corporation schools increasing, the civic body is also constructing additional classrooms to accommodate students.
