All four planned Liquid Apogee Motor firings completed, Insat-3DS orbit testing soon: Isro | – Times of India

BENGALURU: Five days after it put weather satellite Insat-3Ds on GSLV-F14, Isro Thursday said the 2,269kg satellite is expected to reach the orbit testing location by February 28.
“All four planned Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) firings are completed. The spacecraft is now in the geosynchronous orbit. It is expected to reach the In Orbit Testing (IOT) location by Feb 28, 2024,” Isro said.
Insat-3DS has joined Isro’s fleet of weather satellites already in orbit, providing enhanced meteorological observations and data to improve weather forecasting over India.
Equipped with three payloads, Insat-3DS will monitor the atmosphere, land, and ocean surface across different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The satellite is designed to observe monsoon patterns over the Indian region, ensure round-the-clock meteorological services, and provide imaging and monitoring of land/ocean for weather forecasting.
Data from Insat-3DS will be used by the India Meteorology Department and other agencies under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Saturday’s launch marked the 16th flight for GSLV.
