AMC staffer loses Rs 50,000 to ATM cheat | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: A 56-year-old man from the city’s Motera area on Sunday filed a complaint with Sabarmati police alleging that a man, aged around 45 years, replaced his debit card with another card and withdrew Rs 50,000.
Bhupendra Mehta, a sanitation inspector with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), said in his FIR that he had gone to an ATM in Ramnagar on the evening of October 2.
Mehta said that he was not able to withdraw cash despite several attempts. At that time, a man entered the ATM booth and told Mehta to swiftly insert the pin to withdraw money. Mehta did as told, but to no avail.
The man then offered to help Mehta withdraw money. Convinced, Mehta gave his debit card to the unidentified man.
After pretending that he was trying to withdraw cash, he handed over a debit card to Mehta and left the ATM booth.
Mehta then went to another ATM nearby and received several messages regarding money deducted from his savings account. He immediately called the bank and deactivated his ATM card, but by then Rs 50,000 had already been withdrawn from his account.
Sabarmati police registered a complaint of breach of trust and cheating against the unknown man.
