Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the medical and health department to implement the family doctor concept efficiently, while stressing on the important role played by rural clinics and PHCs in achieving the objectives of preventive health care.

In a review meeting of the Medical and Health Department held at its camp office at Tadepalli on June 13 (Tuesday), Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the recruitment system should be strengthened under the supervision of an IAS officer to avoid medical shortage. and para-medical professionals. He said that no post should remain vacant for more than four weeks.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to take steps to make government hospitals corruption-free and run with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while strengthening the grievance-redressal system by prominently displaying toll-free numbers in all facilities.

Reviewing the steps being taken to provide infrastructure in the new medical colleges at Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Eluru, Machilipatnam and Nandyala, Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the officials to ensure good quality of work.

Classes in those colleges are scheduled to start from this academic year, while classes in the colleges coming up at Paderu, Adoni and Pulivendul will start next year.

Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy said that Aarogyasri cards with QR codes should be issued to all new born babies. He said that the details of their health status should be recorded in the card.

Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy also reviewed the steps being taken to check sickle cell anaemia. “The authorities should provide good treatment to the patients and keep a tab on their health condition. Steps should be taken to ensure that eye check-ups are done at regular intervals in village clinics,” he said.

Officials informed the chief minister that a target of conducting 6.68 lakh tests this year has been set and clinical trials will begin in Alluri Seetharama Raju and Parvathipuram-Manyam districts this month.

So far 1,39,97,189 persons including 35,79,569 hypertensive patients and 24,31,934 diabetic patients have been treated under the Family Doctor programme. He said that community health officers are being trained in first aid, snakebite treatment, IV infusion, wound care, dressing, basic cardiac life support and related issues.

Officials said dentists were visiting the PHCs as part of measures taken to strengthen the oral health care system and prevent dental problems. Steps are being taken to identify people suffering from TB by conducting diagnostic tests.
