The US-based tech giant Google, in the latest Android 14 update, has removed the ability to preview notifications by long-pressing app icons on the home screen. This feature, which allowed users to quickly check notifications without unlocking their devices, is no longer available.
Earlier, could check app notifications by long-pressing the app icon on the home screen or app drawer. If there were multiple notifications, only the first one would be shown in full, along with a notification count. Users had the option to open or dismiss the notification by swiping.
‘This was useful if your notification tray was overflowing with alerts, while it went hand-in-hand with the notification dot, which continues to feel like an iOS trait more than an Android one,” according to a report by 9to5Google.
The report revealed that, in Android 14, when you long-press an icon, you’ll see app shortcuts, along with App info, Pause app, and Widgets. Notifications no longer appear in this menu. Instead, Google created a separate list at the top for these three shortcuts, giving them more prominence.
Google confirmed this change while running the Android 14 Beta Program in the summer. As per the report, the tech giant removed the long-press notification feature in Android 14 because it wants to make things easier for users.
Long-pressing an icon to see notifications was only possible on Android devices, which might have confused some people. By removing this feature, the company wants to create a consistent and user-friendly experience for everyone using Android 14, the report said.
Meanwhile, OnePlus recently confirmed that its OnePlus 11 smartphone in India is getting the stable OxygenOS 14 update, which is based on Android 14.
In an official announcement on the OnePlus forum, the company has initiated the deployment of the stable Android 14 update for OnePlus 11 5G devices in India. Eligible smartphones will receive the update bearing the firmware version CPH2447_14.0.0.201 (EX01).
