Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy to be part of upcoming Cannes 2023

Indian director Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy will be part of the official sections of the Cannes Film Festival. It will run under midnight screening. This was announced today in Paris by Festival Director, Thierry Fremaux.

Kashyap has been a regular at Cannes. His Gangs of Wasseypur was screened at the 2012 Director’s Fortnight, an important sidebar of the 12-day event starting on 16 May. “Bombay Talkies”, an anthology, had Kashyap as a director. It was part of a special screening at the 2013 Cannes.

Kashyap’s thriller “Ugly” was also screened in the Directors’ Fortnite section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, followed by Raman Raghav 2.0 in the 2016 Directors’ Fortnite.

In addition to Kennedy, the festival will feature works by Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Wim Wenders, Kore-eda Hirokazu and Todd Haynes. These filmmakers will premiere films both in and out of competition, meaning only a select few will have a chance to capture the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honor. All of these filmmakers are a familiar presence on the Croisette, having screened films there before.

This time around, Cannes will have more women directors – after criticism for failing to give them enough representation. There will be a record number of six films from the women’s side — including Alice Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera,” Jessica Hausner’s “Club Zero,” Catherine Brellet’s “Last Summer,” Justine Triet’s “Anatomy d’Un Chute,” Ramata -Toulay C’s “Bunell” is included. et Adama,” and Kouthar Ben Haniya’s documentary “Daughters of Olfa.”
