Previously, the only way to reset the Apple Vision Pro headset was to take it back to an Apple Store.

It has been almost a couple of weeks since the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset finally made its way to the market, albeit only in the US. Upon release, reviewers and consumers were quick to point out one minor annoyance: being unable to reset the Vision Pro yourself if you forget the passcode.

Apple has promptly addressed this concern and today released the VisionOS 1.0.3 update, the first update since launch, as spotted by MacRumors. This update allows Vision Pro users to reset the headset in case they forget the device passcode they had originally set.

Previously, the only way to reset the headset was to take it back to an Apple Store. If there wasn’t one nearby, users would have needed to ship the headset to Apple Support. Luckily, this update now solves this minor yet frustrating annoyance.

In tandem with this quick fix, the update also brings a slew of undisclosed bug fixes affecting the headset. The Apple release note reads, “This update provides important bug fixes and adds an option to reset your device if you’ve forgotten your passcode.”

That said, while customers can now reset the headset on their own after failed attempts, it doesn’t change the fact that they would still need to reset the headset to set it up again. So, it’s essential to remember the passcode. Also, once you reset the headset, the Apple Activation stays in place, and you will need to enter the original Apple ID that was used to set up the device.
