Apple Watch Ultra is said to be durable and even the ads show its capability but can it really handle being underwater?

Apple Watch Ultra is marketed as a rugged smartwatch by the company and even its ads have people wearing it underwater, going for hikes in extreme conditions and more. But all of this is mostly the marketing showing its worth. What happens when the Apple Watch Ultra is faced with a real-life situation which involves being underwater not for hours or days but for months?

Recently, there was an episode where the quality and durability of the Apple Watch Ultra came into question, and the results were mostly a mixed bag, as the company could now face questions about the silicone strap that you get with the Apple Watch Ultra.

The owner of the Apple Watch Ultra given in this report, decided to go for a dive wearing the Apple smartwatch, expecting it to hold. However, much to his dismay, the strap on the Apple Watch Ultra came off when he was 30 feet underwater and the watch sank into the lake, which he tried to retrieve multiple times.

Eventually he decided to give up but was smart enough to activate Lost Mode through the Find My app on the iPhone. The owner had given up on getting his Apple Watch Ultra back but a few months later, he got an alert saying they had found his Apple Watch, which he got picked up by his brother who was close to the area where the lake was.

But now comes the real test of the Apple Watch Ultra, being underwater for 3 months can be tough for any gadget to handle, so how does the Apple Watch Ultra fare? Initially, the Watch Ultra did not turn on which would have been a concern for the user.

And the device did need a lot of cleaning. But after charging the device for a few days, the owner updated saying that his Apple Watch Ultra is working fine and didn’t feel like it was under the water for such a long time.

This incident seems to suggest two things. One is that the Apple Watch Ultra priced at Rs 89,900 is quite durable and secondly, having it paired with an iPhone means you can activate Find My feature and ensure you never lose the device, no matter how deep it goes under the water.
