AR Rahman’s reaction to Natu Natu’s big win at the Oscars talks about the changing face of the music industry in India.
RRR’s Natu Natu has created history by winning the Oscars this year. Music maestro AR Rahman, who recently attended the IIFA Awards ceremony, recently reacted to the same on the red carpet. He was asked about Natu Natu winning an Oscar and how Indian music is ruling hearts globally.
The musician then shared with ANI, “It’s great. We should ride the momentum… Lots of other countries have global singers and they keep it up. And this is very important. All the artistes involved should work and keep our flag flying high.”
When asked to what extent the music game has changed in our country today, he shared, “I think it has always been there. You have seen Raj Kapoor’s songs being made in Russia…but I feel we haven’t done enough to make it better.’

On a closing note, he was asked if he has any favorite singer from India. “There are a lot of singers with amazing talent in India, and they are coming up with their own original material,” Rahman smiled. He has his own identity, he is not copying anyone. I think now empowerment has come within the mind. It’s a beautiful new era.
Even when Natu Natu’s nomination for Oscars 2023 was announced earlier this year, Rahman told News18, “It is not easy to move beyond this prejudice. He has done a tremendous job. It happened, it is a great achievement. People are not apologetic for dancing to Telugu/Indian beats. This should happen again and again in every industry. When we become leaders, it will be amazing. MM Keeravani is an underrated musician. I tell my kids that he has been working for 35 years and wants to quit. Then his career started. I want RRR to win the Oscars.”
