Asaduddin Owaisi challenges Rahul Gandhi to contest elections from Hyderabad | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has issued a challenge to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Addressing a gathering in his parliamentary constituency on Sunday, Owaisi urged Rahul Gandhi to contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Hyderabad, rather than Wayanad.
The AIMIM chief had issued a similar challenge to Rahul Gandhi and Union home minister Amit Shah in 2018, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“I am daring your leader, Rahul Gandhi, to participate in the elections from Hyderabad instead of Wayanad. While you make grand statements, step onto the battleground and compete against me. Congress members may say a lot of things, but I am prepared for the challenge. The destruction of the Babri Masjid and the Secretariat’s mosque occurred during Congress rule…” Owaisi asserted.
The AIMIM chief had issued a similar challenge to Rahul Gandhi and Union home minister Amit Shah in 2018, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress and AIMIM are engaged in intense political rivalry in Telangana, both vying for supremacy in the upcoming state Assembly elections, scheduled to take place later this year.
Earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi, during his address at the Vijayabheri Sabha in Telangana’s Tukkuguda, claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and AIMIM were collaborating in Telangana. He asserted that his party was in opposition to this alliance.
“In Telangana, the Congress party is not competing against BRS alone but against the combined forces of BRS, BJP, and AIMIM. Though they portray themselves as distinct parties, they are working together in unison,” Rahul Gandhi said.
The Wayanad MP also stated that there were no CBI or ED cases against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao or AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered them to be aligned with his interests.
‘We shocked Parliament’
Owaisi on Sunday said that the ‘two’ votes from his party opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam “shocked the Parliament.”
The AIMIM MP said: “BJP leaders kept saying that two of our MPs voted against the women’s reservation bill. But, we shocked the parliament.”
“A total of 450 MPs voted for and only 2 voted against the bill. Speaker Sahab said Owaisi Sahab, no one is with you, I replied, “Allah is with me,” Owaisi said.
