Assam: IED recovered under flyover in Tinsukia, safely defused | Guwahati News – Times of India

Dibrugarh: A major accident in the district was averted Tinsukia Security personnel recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted under a flyover on Makum Bypass Road. IED Later it was successfully defused at a safe place by the Bomb Disposal Squad of 18 Garhwal Regiment of Army from Dinjan Military Station.
As per reports, the IED was first spotted by local residents under the flyover around 10 am, triggering panic in the area. As soon as the information was received, Tinsukia SP Abhijeet Gurav immediately reached the spot and sought the help of the Army’s bomb disposal squad. bomb expert The IED weighing about 2.5 kg was taken to an open ground and a controlled explosion was carried out at 12.10 pm without causing any damage to the surrounding environment.
The SP said, ‘Today at 10 am, we received information about a bomb-like object being below. Makum Bypass Flyover, Immediately police and army personnel reached the spot. The area was cordoned off and the army’s bomb disposal squad was called in. Bomb experts defused the IED by conducting a controlled explosion in an open field. The remaining material has been collected and chemical analysis will be done to ascertain the composition of the bomb. It was a crude bomb, not a refined one.”
The SP further said that they were probing the matter to find out the persons involved, their motive and their intended target.
