Ahmedabad: The Nicaragua-bound flight which was grounded at Vatry airport in France for refuelling had 96 Gujaratis, of which only 72 returned on Tuesday. Cops said that 24 of them stayed back in France seeking asylum regarding which the Gujarat police are seeking the reason from the Indian embassy in France.
The flight carrying 303 Indians on its way to Nicaragua was grounded at the Vatry airport.Human smugglers have promised their clients that they would be taken to the US through the Mexico border.
“They have also advised to seek asylum if they are caught on the foreign land — especially in Europe. Some loyal clients, who were desperate to reach the US, sought asylum in France. After that, they will gradually go to the US,” said a police officer.
There are instances that people from Gujarat have sought asylum in the US on the ground of political persecution. tnn
