Prayagraj: The authorities of Allahabad University (AU) have decided to implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 norms in its campus in a phased manner from this academic session.
The Central University has chalked out the first phase of the exercise and will start six new courses under NEP-2020 from the academic session 2023-24. Due to the large number of students enrolled in the courses of AU (there are more than 65,000 students in the University and its constituent colleges), the NEP norms will not be applied to all the courses of AU at once. NEP will be implemented in AU and its constituent colleges in three phases.
According to AU Vice-Chancellor Professor Sangeeta Srivastava, “We are implementing NEP in a phased manner from this session and the rest of the courses under the new education policy will start in session 2025-26.”
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the VC said that admission to one of these six new courses would be through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), while admission to the Integrated (MSc and PhD) course in Cognitive Science would be through COGJET (Cognitive). being done through joint entrance Examination and gate). Admission to other four courses will be done through General University Entrance Test (CUET).
The VC further said that under the new education policy, a five-year Integrated BCA and MCA in Data Science will be started under AU’s Center of Computer Education and Training, Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), which will have 40 seats. Along with this, an integrated course in Cognitive Science will be conducted under AU’s Center of Behavioral and Cognitive Science (CBCS), which will have 20 seats.
The four courses for which admission will be through CUET include a five-year integrated program in Family and Community Sciences (BSc and MSc) in the core areas of Textiles and Apparel, Food and Nutrition and Human Development under the Department of Family and Community Sciences of AU. BA-LLB (Hons) with 40 seats with 40 seats and five years integrated law course under Law Faculty and five years MBA with 40 seats and five years integrated course in Disaster Management and Environmental Studies under Department of Geography and Environmental Science Centre. Apart from this, AU will also introduce proficiency courses under NEP-2020 which promises to help develop the personality of AU students. The personality development-elective courses proposed will include music (tabla, sitar and singing). Play (Basketball, Tennis, Hockey and Cricket), NCC (Navy and Army), Elements of the Constitution, Mental Health, Financial Markets (Basic Understanding), Inventions in Science and Technology, Film and Theater (Basic Techniques) and Therapeutic Nutrition and Yoga. Students will also have the opportunity to study European languages ​​such as French, Russian and German (student capacity 40) as well as oriental languages ​​such as Urdu, Sanskrit and English (student capacity 40).
