Ayushmann Khurrana shares he would love to play a negative role; says he adores Aamir Khan in ‘Dhoom 3’ and Amjad Khan in ‘Sholay’ | – Times of India

Ayushmann Khurrana recently revealed that while he has played not-so-likeable characters on screen, he has never really played a hardcore negative role and would love to play one.
In an interview with Filmfare, Ayushmann spoke about playing simple characters in films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bala, and Badhaai Do. He emphasized that the choice of characters largely depends on the filmmaking approach. His recent projects, set in smaller-town settings such as Doctor G, Shubh Mangal Savdhan, Bala, and Badhaai Ho, have featured scripts with straightforward narratives. However, Ayushmann expressed his desire for versatility and growth in his roles. While his current projects may not be as basic, they still incorporate elements of simplicity that resonate with audiences. He acknowledged the significance of both relatable, character-driven narratives and grand, commercial films, recognizing their impact on viewers. Ayushmann emphasized the importance of embracing diverse storytelling styles and finding inspiration in various cinematic experiences.

Further, Ayushmann expressed his eagerness to explore the possibility of playing a negative role, noting that it would be intriguing to delve into a character offering more depth while still showcasing a positive aspect of himself. Reflecting on his past roles, he mentioned memorable characters like Prakash Tiwari in Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Manvinder Munjal in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, acknowledging that while some may not have been entirely likable, they had nuances. He also pointed out that even in An Action Hero, his character had shades of grey. However, Ayushmann admitted that he hasn’t had the chance to portray a hardcore negative character yet, but he remains open to the idea and eagerly awaits a script that speaks to him. He expressed his willingness to embrace the challenge if the right opportunity arises.

He mentioned his admiration for Aamir Khan‘s role in Dhoom 3 and Amjad Khan’s portrayal in Sholay when discussing his idol for negative characters. Referring to Amitabh Bachchan‘s desire to play Amjad Khan’s character due to its substantial depth, he indicated Amjad Khan as his choice for a negative character idol. Additionally, he expressed interest in complex roles like the Joker.
