‘Ban Adipurush’ is becoming a trend on social media these days. Prabhas and critic i sayThe mythological drama has disappointed many. While many accused it of ‘hurting Hindi sentiments’, others were irked by the critical dialogues. Adipurush is inspired by the epic Ramayana and the makers had booked a seat for Lord Hanuman in every theater in which the film was shown. However, this did not save him from the response that the film was getting from all quarters. Now, the All Indian Cine Workers Association has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban the screening of the Om Raut-directed film.

The makers of Adipurush have already claimed that they will change 5 dialogues in the film amid public protests. Now, AICWA has demanded a ban on the film citing it ‘hurting every Indian in the country and across the world’. Image of Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman. “Lord Shri Ram is a god for everyone in India, no matter what religious faith one comes from, the film also depicts Lord Ram and even Ravana, who looks like a video game character , dialogues hurt every Indian in the country and across the world. We request Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to stop screening this film and order an immediate ban on Adipurush screening in theaters and OTT platforms in future “

The AICWA demanded registration of an FIR against Adipurush’s director Om Raut and writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla as well as the producers of the film. It further reads, “Actor Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan Should not have been a part of such a shameful film ever made in the history of Indian cinema, Adipurush is a complete waste of our faith in Shri Ram and Ramayana.”

On Monday, Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush crashed at the box office with a massive drop of 77 per cent. Public reaction and negative statements have made the ticket window empty. On the other hand, amidst the Adipurush controversy, the Government of Nepal announced a ban on all Hindi films. This created a controversy regarding the birthplace of Sita. According to the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur, which falls in the Nepalese region, and was visited and married by Lord Rama.

Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah on 15 June directed cinema halls in the Nepalese capital not to screen the film until the makers corrected the mistake of Sita’s birthplace. A day after the mayor’s warning, all cinema halls in Kathmandu stopped screening Adipurush due to security concerns.
