Belagavi: in February health Department announced Belagavi The district was completely free of COVID-19 as not a single case had been reported for the past one month, and there were no active cases. However, the sudden spurt in the pandemic on Saturday created panic in the district.
On Saturday, 19 cases were reported in a single day in the district. Of them, 15 were found in the border taluks – Nipani and Chikodi, besides two cases in Belagavi city and one each in Raibag and Savadatti taluks. Belagavi is third in the state after Bengaluru Urban and Shivamogga with 162 and 50 cases on Saturday.
According to health department sources, 15 cases have been reported from Akkol, Kognoli, Soundalga, Mangur, Jainapur and Ingli villages in Nipani and Chikodi taluks. In view of the sudden spurt in the cases of Kovid-19, the Health Department has taken precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic by patients in home isolation. Talking to TOI, District Health Officer Dr Mahesh horses Of the total 19 cases reported on Saturday, 16 were in Maharashtra’s border villages. “We monitor each case through strict home isolation and secondary contacts. I have asked the concerned local authorities to keep a watch on the floating population in Maharashtra border villages,” he added.
“Since the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases, we will double the tests across the district from Sunday. I have requested more vaccines and masks, among other essentials, to effectively monitor the situation in the coming days. Meanwhile, the official urged people to follow Covid-appropriate behavior by washing hands, avoiding crowded places and using masks in public places.
Belagavi district reported 14 Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday. Of the total cases reported, 10 are from Savadatti taluk, while two are from Belagavi city and the remaining two from Chikodi and Khanapur. With this the total number of active cases has gone up to 36.
