Football is part of Bhupinder’s DNA, with his father Jarnail Singh the first turbaned Sikh referee in an English league and his brother Sunny following in their father’s footsteps.
Bhupinder has carried forward the legacy.
Speaking to reporters, Bhupinder said, “This is the proudest and most exciting moment of my refereeing journey, but I am not getting affected by it as it is just another step in the direction of where I want to reach.”
“Hopefully, this is another moment to help inspire the next generation to sign up for refereeing courses and become officiators,” he said.
“My dream has always been to rise to the top of the sport, be a role model for future executives and inspire more people from diverse backgrounds to act, especially from South Asian backgrounds like mine.”
His father, Jarnail, officiated over 150 matches in the Football League (EFL) between 2004 and 2010, while brother Sunny is also an EFL referee. But Bhupinder has gone on to become a Premier League official.
