Big Breaking! Google’s AI Tool to Revolutionize Journalism? Here’s what Google is planning

New Delhi: Google is reportedly in touch with journalists from leading media houses to help them write news through its artificial intelligence (AI) model, which can generate appropriate articles. The New York Times reported that Google has discussed the new AI tool with The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal owner News Corp, and even the NYT, among others.

Google demonstrated an AI tool for senior media executives, reportedly called ‘Genesis’, that introduces “responsible” technology that takes facts and writes a news copy. ,Also read: Government sent ’emergency alert’ message, public expressed concern on Twitter – know what is the matter,

A Google spokesperson said that “we are in the early stages of exploring ideas to potentially provide AI-enabled tools to journalists to help them with their work”, in partnership with news publishers, particularly smaller publishers.

For example, AI-enabled tools can assist journalists with choices of headlines or different writing styles.

“Our goal is to give journalists the option of using these emerging technologies to enhance their work and productivity, just as we’re providing helpful tools for people in Gmail and Google Docs,” said a company spokesperson.

However, these tools are not intended to and cannot replace the essential role journalists play in reporting, producing and fact-checking their articles, the company noted.

However, AI has so far failed to provide accurate information in many cases.

In June, US’s largest publisher Gannett filed a federal lawsuit against Google for monopolizing advertising technology markets and for deceptive commercial practices.

The lawsuit seeks to restore competition in the digital advertising market and end Google’s monopoly, which would encourage investment in newsrooms and news content across the country.
