Bihar Police to send traffice-challans via registered post | Patna News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Bihar Police has implemented a new system of sending e-challans to traffic violators via registered post. The decision was made due to the ineffectiveness of sending e-challans through SMS, as offenders frequently change their mobile phone numbers.
Additional Director General (ADG) Traffic, Sudhanshu Kumar, stated that the system was recently introduced in Patna and will be extended to all districts. The cost of sending e-challans via registered post may be recovered from the offenders. On average, 3,000 e-challans are issued daily in Bihar for various traffic violations such as over-speeding, signal jumping, and not wearing helmets.
However, statistics show that less than half of these e-challans are paid by motorists. As of February 8, 2024, a total of 2,989 e-challans worth Rs 46.5 lakh were issued in all 38 districts of the state, but only Rs 6.44 lakh has been collected so far. To address this issue, Bihar Police has decided to send penalty notices and e-challans via registered post. The city of Patna has the highest number of traffic violations, followed by Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, Gaya, Begusarai, and Saran.
