Bill Gates visits Bhubaneswar slum, interacts with residents | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates visited a slum in Bhubaneswar and interacted with the residents on Wednesday. He went to Biju Adarsh Colony in Maa Mangla Basti along with government officials.
Gates also spoke to women’s self-help groups working there. State Urban Development Secretary G Mathi Vathanan mentioned that Gates talked to beneficiaries of government welfare schemes.

State Development Commissioner Anu Garg said, “We have shown him that the slum dwellers have got land rights, tap water connections, toilets and power supply.He expressed happiness over the transformation of the slum area into a model colony.”
A resident of the colony shared that Gates asked about the impact of the schemes on their lives. Gates, who arrived on Tuesday, is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik later.
“He asked about how we were living earlier and our present status,” she said.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation collaborates with various state government departments.
