Vadodara/Ahmedabad: Birthday Celebrations in Shastri Nagar The matter took a turn when a dispute between six people turned violent. Abduction on Tuesday night. Four of them kidnapped two teenage friends and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore. As luck would have it, the hijackers’ car got stuck in a waterlogged culvert in Dahod, giving the victims a chance to escape and call for help on Wednesday.
According to Naranpura police, Zeel Upadhyay17-year-old Kishore, a resident of KK Nagar, had organized his birthday party near police lines in Shastri Nagar. He invited his friends from Shastri Nagar, Preet Contractor, 19, Dev Vaghela, 19, Manish Bhabhor, 18, Ruchit Rajput, 18 and Vraj Soni, 19, all Ghatlodias, to the party.
Another person named Karan alias Krunal Rajput, 28, who was engaged to the contractor, also reached the party along with three others. “Karan used to visit a tea stall in Shastri Nagar where we used to visit often. However, he was not our friend. He had a long-standing dispute with the contractor and Upadhyay. He instigated a fight in the party which quickly escalated. Meanwhile, the three accomplices took out a knife and put it on our friend’s neck to make us retreat,” a youth who attended the party told the police. They allegedly forced the contractor and Upadhyay into a car and fled. Others attempted to follow but failed.
Contractor’s mother, Bhargavi, told TOI: “After this, Karan contacted one of his friends through Instagram and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore in five hours. Later he increased the demand to Rs 10 crore. They threatened to send the bodies of my son and his friend to us if the demands were not met.
Karan and his accomplice were taking the two victims to a secluded place in Dahod. Fate took an unexpected turn when the kidnappers’ car got stuck in a water-logged culvert near Bhootiya village in Deogarh Baria taluka of Dahod district. “Karan and his associates asked the contractor and Upadhyay to push the car. Taking a chance, both managed to escape and sought help from the village sarpanch. They called me and I immediately informed the police,” said Bhargavi.
According to the Piplod police of Dahod district, they had received information about a white car being abandoned on the culvert. The police quickly formed teams and nabbed the four accused from the vicinity of the stranded car. One of the accused is a minor.
Late on Wednesday night, authorities transported the four suspects and two victims to the city of Ahmedabad.
