BJP and JD(U) Finalize Seat-Sharing for Bihar Elections: BJP to Contest 17 Seats | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) will contest 16 seats, one less than last time, with the BJP fighting in 17 after the five-party NDA in Bihar finalised its seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
But Monday’s biggest gainer was Chirag Paswan. His Lok Janshakti Party (LJP-Ram Vilas) would contest five seats, including the prestigious Hajjipur constituency, even as Rashtriya LJP, headed by Union minister and Chirag’s uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, drew a blank.
The two other seats in Bihar, which sends 40 members to Lok Sabha, have been assigned to former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) and Upendra Kushwaha-led Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), Vinod Tawde, the BJP’s in-charge for elections in Bihar, said at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Monday evening.
It is the first time that the BJP has got more seats than JD(U) in the state, underscoring the change in their equations after the two became partners again a few months back.
“BJP will contest 17 out of the total 40 seats and the JD(U) will contest 16. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest five seats,” Tawde said at the press conference which was also addressed by leaders of the alliance partners from the state.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP and JD(U) had fought in 17 seats each while the undivided Lok Janshakti Party, headed by former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, had contested six.
