The Delhi BJP on Saturday launched a ‘Jhootha Kahin Ka’ campaign against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. It flagged off 14 vans as part of the campaign, which will travel across the city to show people a 27-minute video on Mr Kejriwal’s alleged “lies, deceit and corruption”.

Delhi BJP in-charge Baijayant Jai Panda said that Kejriwal’s alleged corruption in the renovation of his official residence would now be exposed in every household of Delhi.

On Friday, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said the four-week-long campaign would expose Mr Kejriwal’s “lies”.

Sachdeva said, “BJP has made a special video about Mr Kejriwal’s political U-turn, false promises and apology, which will be displayed in every corner of the capital and on social media.”

The BJP had last week called for an indefinite dharna over the alleged ₹45 crore renovation of the residence near the CM residence in Civil Lines.

‘Jan Chetna Sabha’

Mr. Sachdeva said that along with this campaign, the party will surround the AAP government through ‘Jan Chetna Sabhas’ in all the 70 assemblies against the alleged ‘corruption, inaction and anarchy’.

When contacted, the AAP did not respond to the allegations or the campaign.

water quality testing

The BJP also demanded Mr Kejriwal’s resignation alleging that 34% of the water samples collected by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) failed the quality test.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramveer Singh Bidhuri said, “It is now proved that one-third of the people are being given such toxic water that they are suffering from serious stomach ailments, cancer, serious liver and kidney ailments. ”

Mr Bidhuri alleged that a total of 7,411 samples were taken, of which 2,508 failed the test. “These samples have completely failed the standards of the World Health Organisation. This means that the DJB itself has admitted that the water in 33.8% of the samples is contaminated and toxic.

Bharti rejected the allegations

When contacted, DJB vice-chairman Somnath Bharti rubbished the BJP’s claims and said that raw water is put through careful processes before supplying it to Delhi residents.

“We collect about 8.5 lakh samples every year from all over Delhi and almost all of them pass the test. If any adulteration is found in a sample, we go to the root of it and rectify it,” said Mr. Bharti. He said that the DJB has also appealed to the people of Delhi to report if they saw anyone tampering with the pipeline.

“Residents have to be vigilant that no one damages the water pipelines or tries to contaminate the water by fixing some illegal connections in the pipelines. If anyone comes across such a case, he should immediately lodge a complaint with the Delhi Jal Board through helpline number 1916.
