BJP men hit woman for questioning GST increase in Tamil Nadu | Chennai News – Times of India

TIRUPUR/CHENNAI: A group of BJP cadres campaigning in Tirupur parliamentary constituency assaulted a woman entrepreneur when she questioned them on the soaring goods and services tax (GST). A video of the BJP cadres assaulting the woman went viral on social media. Industries minister T R B Rajaa and other DMK leaders castigated BJP for unleashing violence against the woman.
Police said D Sangeetha, from Ambedkar Nagar at Aathupalayam in Tirupur city, is running a textile shop. On Thursday, when some BJP cadres went to her shop campaigning, she questioned them on the soaring GST under the NDA govt. Following an argument, the BJP cadres abused Sangeetha and physically assaulted her. She recorded the incident on her mobile phone and posted it on social media.
The woman, a member of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK) lodged a complaint with the Velampalayam police. Police booked the BJP cadres under sections 294 (b) and 323 of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (TNPHW) act on Friday.
