BJP MLA Ram Kadam on ‘Besharam Rang’ song from ‘Pathan’: It seems the makers are deliberately keeping mum as they want cheap publicity – Exclusive – Times of India

earlier today, BJP MLA Ram Kadam reacts on ‘Pathan’ song controversy. In a series of tweets in Hindi, Kadam said that any film disrespecting Hindutva would not be tolerated. In conversation with ETimes, he further questioned why the makers of the film are silent on the objections made by Hindu sadhus, freedom of expression and others.

Clarifying his stand, Kadam said, “If you read my tweet, I did not mention that we are demanding a ban on Pathan. I just said that we are a government of Hindu ideology in Maharashtra and we Definitely will not tolerate any kind of movie or serial which is going to hurt the sentiments of Hindus and we will definitely not let them be released. That is my clear stand.”

He said, “The producer and director should come forward and clarify their stand against the objectionable points raised by Hindu sadhus and organizations. When outrage is being expressed by these sadhus and saints, any authority should come forward and The stance is not clear.”

Further questioning the song’s lyrics, Kadam asked what the meaning of the song was and referred to Deepika’s participation in the JNU campus protests before the release of ‘Chhapaak’. “When they are saying besharam rang, which ‘rang’ (colour) are they calling ‘besharam’? Is saffron shameless? Is she wearing saffron intentionally? The same actress went to JNU when slogans like ‘
Bharat tere tukde honge‘ were shouting on campus. She wanted to promote her film at the same time. The same mentality is visible in this film against Hinduism and against this country. I am not trying to make any point. I’m just trying to see everything. There may be some other points which we will know when the director talks. But why is he silent? Producer and director don’t care when people are raising questions and sadhus are on the streets. It means they are deliberately keeping mum because they want this cheap publicity.”

What about freedom of expression? “Who is depriving you of freedom of expression? But freedom of expression should not hurt anyone’s sentiments. There is a thin line. We should respect everyone’s sentiments. We are not saying that we going to ban the film or that film. We’re just saying.” That if we find anything in the film that hurts Hindu sentiments, we will definitely ban it. Time and again all these filmmakers are deliberately playing with Hindu sentiments. There are many movies. Do you think they innocently called it Besharam Rang? Our sages and saints have worn saffron. I am not jumping to conclusions after listening to a line from ‘Besharam Rang’. That’s why I have clearly said in my tweet that they should clarify their stand. Until they clarify their stand, we will not know what exactly they want to express,” Kadam concluded.
