The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing on weaker sections of the communities other than Hindus. In this episode, the BJP has turned its attention to the most backward among Muslims – Pasmanda Muslims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BJP’s national executive in Hyderabad last week had suggested BJP workers to focus on weaker sections of communities other than Hindus. After this, the minority wing of the party has prepared a blueprint to reach out to the Pasmanda Muslims.

Consider giving them representation in the party unit
BJP Minority Morcha chief Jamal Siddiqui said the party’s activities to reach out to the Pasmanda community are broadly based on two aspects. First of all, it will be ensured that they get the benefit of the welfare schemes of the Modi government. Apart from this, they will be given representation in the party unit of the districts, especially where they are in majority. Siddiqui himself is a Pasmanda Muslim. He said that the workers of our party, especially the members of the Minority Morcha, would contact the Pasmanda Muslims across the country for this. He said that most of the office-bearers of the BJP’s minority wing are from different sections of the Pasmanda community.

Planning to organize celebrations on the birth anniversary of Param Vir Chakra winner Abdul Hameed
Another party leader said the BJP is planning to celebrate national heroes of the community like 1965 war hero and Param Vir Chakra winner Abdul Hameed (of Idrisi caste) and organize celebrations on his birth anniversary. The Pasmandas constitute over 70 per cent of the total Muslim population and the BJP aims to reach out to them while preparing for various state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Muslim leaders of many parties come from the Ashraf community. These include the Sayyids, Mughals and Pathans (similar to the upper castes among Hindus).

The Pasmandas include Malik (tailor), Momin Ansar (weaver), Qureshi (butcher), Mansoori (quilt and mattress maker), Idrisi (tailor), Saifi (blacksmith), Salmani (barber) and Hawari (washer). At the BJP’s national executive in Hyderabad last week, Modi had suggested that party workers should reach out to backward sections of minorities such as the Pasmanda Muslims.
