CHENNAI: The BJP has intensified its southern push with the national leadership focusing on Tamil Nadu. Party national president J P Nadda was on a whirlwind tour of central and southern Tamil Nadu on Sunday, addressing public meetings in Ariyalur, Karur and Virudhunagar. In Trichy, Nadda held a road show after Madras high court overruled police objections.

From Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tour the state for two days, holding road shows in Chennai, Vellore and Mettupalayam. This is Modi’s seventh visit to Tamil Nadu this year but the first since BJP raised Katchatheevu as an issue.
Home minister Amit Shah was also scheduled to visit the state, but it was called off. BJP sources say the visit could be rescheduled.
Union minister Smriti Irani was in Chennai on Saturday. And, Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur will campaign in Chennai on Monday. Even before elections, Union ministers regularly visited the state and spoke on the benefits of central schemes.
