The photo below is of Shalini. There is a 2 year old child in the lap. Shalini’s father Dinesh Singh, who lost her mother 20 years ago, was beaten to death with sticks 4 days ago. By the time she reached her maternal home from her in-laws’ house, her father had died. The family members were horrified because the people who killed Dinesh had shot his elder brother 17 years ago in Bhari Bazar. Everyone in the village was domineering, so the victim’s family was nervous about going to the police station to file a report against them. But… not Shalini.
Shalini returned home with her father’s dead body. After some time went to Sangrampur police station in Amethi with the whole family. With great courage, an FIR was lodged against 4 influential people of the village (village head Sanjay Kumar Singh alias Munna, Deepak Singh, Pancham Singh and Ravi Shankar Pandey). As of now, more than 100 hours have passed since Dinesh was murdered. On the persuasion of the police, the family members performed his last rites. But so far not a single accused has been caught. On the other hand, Shalini is adamant – she will not rest until her father’s killers are punished.

5 people stopped Dinesh’s bike, hit him with sticks and broke his head
18 July 2023… Dhaurhara village of Sangrampur police station area of Amethi. It was around 12 in the afternoon. Dinesh was waiting for the rain to stop in his two-room kutcha house. He had to go out for some important work related to the school. The rain stopped… So Dinesh took the bike and went towards the city. He had reached a short distance from home that suddenly 5 people came in front of his bike in the nearby market and stopped the car. Everyone’s faces were covered with cloth. There were iron rods and sticks in hand. Before Dinesh could say anything, the attackers started lathi-charge on him.
Dinesh tried to run away, but he was pushed and dropped in the mud. After this, he was dragged to the middle of the road. He killed as much as he could. Dinesh was shouting loudly but his voice was not reaching anyone. The attackers made about 4 blows on the head one after the other. Dinesh fainted. The attackers thought that he had been killed. When the attackers fled from there, the people around reached the spot. When a person put his hand on Dinesh’s chest, it was found that he was breathing.
- When his brother-in-law Nyay Singh came to know about the attack on Dinesh, he rushed to the spot. After the death of his sister, he used to live with Dinesh.

Justice Singh says, “When I reached there, Dinesh Jija was lying on the road. His whole body was covered in blood. His tongue was sticking out, he was breathing. People threw water on his face, but he did not wake up. After that, with the help of people, I somehow took him to the Sangrampur Health Center. The doctors there got him bandaged and referred him to the Gauriganj district hospital. After treatment, when the brother-in-law regained consciousness, he was taking the names of Munna Singh and some people from the village. His condition was so bad that he died in a short time.
‘Those who shot Bade Papa are the killers of my mercury’
Deceased Dinesh Singh had married his only daughter Shalini in 2020. His in-laws house is in Mau district. She reached the village as soon as she got the news of her father’s death. He has given Tahrir against the attackers in Sangrampur police station. Shalini says, “Papa was the booth president of the BJP. The villagers used to come to him every day with source-recommendations. On the day he was killed, he had also gone to the city for admission of someone’s children. People used to respect him a lot, because government work was done easily at his request. But Munna Singh and his people were irritated by this.”
According to Shalini, Sanjay Singh alias Munna, village head of Dhaurahara village, shot dead her elder father (Dinesh’s elder brother) Sahdev Singh in 2006 over a minor dispute. His father Dinesh Singh was the last witness in this case. His last appearance was to be held in August, after which the culprits were bound to be punished. But before that Munna Singh along with his men got Dinesh Singh killed.
After the brutal murder of her father, 26-year-old Shalini has come to her maternal home from her in-laws’ house. But he is afraid that the accused partymen may kill him too. The police is also busy investigating the accused on their Tahrir, so the danger has not averted yet. At present, police force has been deployed in front of Shalini’s house.

Dinesh Singh was fighting the case of murder of Sahdev Singh which took place 17 years ago. Dinesh was also murdered before his testimony could prove vital to the case. Dinesh had already foreshadowed the incident that happened. He often used to tell sister Asha over the phone that he was receiving death threats. Death is on his head.
Asha told, “Bhaiyya (Dinesh) called me a day before the murder. He was nervous. He was saying that the accused was threatening him to withdraw the case. He was being asked not to testify by luring money.” Saying this, Asha starts crying. After a while she remains silent and then says- “Ever since the case of Sahdev Bhaiya’s murder started, we were receiving death threats continuously. We had complained about it at Sangrampur police station, but nothing happened. You tell me… when the police are also in collusion with the bullies, then who will listen to the poor.”
BJP came in support of the family.
Amethi BJP District President Durgesh Tripathi has confirmed that Dinesh Singh is a BJP leader. Durgesh says, “Dinesh Singh of Dhaurhara village was an active BJP worker and also the president of booth number 206. No one had thought that such a deadly attack would happen on him. The party stands with the family of the deceased. From legal to financial assistance, whatever is possible, we will help Dinesh’s family.”
Looking at the financial condition of the victim’s family, SDM Preeti Tiwari has assured to provide all possible financial assistance to Dinesh’s family on the basis of eligibility. Along with this, instructions have been given to the Block Development Officer to provide accommodation to the relatives of the deceased.
After talking to the family of the deceased Dinesh, when we reached the house of the accused, all their houses were locked. The villagers told that his family is absconding since the incident. After July 18, none of the family members returned home.

Police could not catch the accused even after 4 days
The police reached the place where Dinesh Singh was attacked within 10 minutes. Understood the whole matter and immediately injured Dinesh was sent to the hospital. But he died during treatment. At present, Amethi Police has deployed PAC in the entire Dhaurhara village in view of the security. 15 policemen are doing rounds in the village. The force is monitoring the houses of the victim’s family as well as the accused. Those who are coming to meet Dinesh’s family, their due checking and name-address, phone numbers are being written.
Devi Dayal, sub-inspector of Sangrampur police station, who met outside Dinesh’s house, said, “Out of the 4 people the victim’s family has accused of murder, 3 are from Dhaurhara village. While Ravi Shankar Pandey is a resident of another village. Raids are being conducted at different places in Sangrampur police station area to arrest them. At present, all the accused are absconding.”
Criminal history of accused Munna Singh…
According to the police, Sanjay Singh, named for the murder of booth president Dinesh Singh, has a criminal background. More than 15 cases are registered against Dinesh alias Munna in many police stations including Sangrampur, Prayagraj.
In this whole matter, we talked to the people of the village. Some villagers were not ready to speak on camera. People say that if the accused are not caught soon, there will be panic in the village. Munna Singh’s family is absconding since this incident, but his close ones are still here. Who is coming here? Who is speaking against them. All the information is reaching the accused. An elder who came to attend Dinesh’s funeral told that Munna Singh is a man of domineering nature. Has been a history sheeter in 2 districts. Till date no one has been able to speak against him. But after this case, his entire house is lying closed. He himself has fled from here along with his family. His absconding shows that somewhere the fault is his own.
The main accused sought help by making the video viral
Sanjay Singh alias Munna, the village head of Dhaurahara village, the main accused in the murder of Dinesh Singh, has declared himself innocent by releasing a video on social media. Sanjay has appealed to PM Modi, CM Yogi and Amethi MP Smriti Irani for justice. In the viral video, the family of accused Sanjay Dinesh has accused him of trapping him.
