Bommai: Govt Must Declare Drought In State | – Times of India

Haveri: Former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai asked whether the state government is waiting for a holy time to declare drought in the state.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the gutted firecracker godown here on Saturday, Bommai said the government has been negligent over the issue. “It had promised that it will declare drought in July, but nothing happened. The state government keeps pointing finger at the Union government by writing letters. Power issue is adding to people’s woes. It’s time the government purchases electricity immediately,” he said.
The former CM also said former suicide cases have increased, “but the agriculture minister has denied this”. “FSL report is not received immediately — it takes a minimum of 15-20 days. Farmers have committed suicide after failing to repay their loans. The government should release compensation as much as possible,” he said. tnn
