The internet is a great place to learn and try new things but it has a limit. A man in Brazil learned this the hard way and landed in the hospital after attempting cosmetic nose surgery on himself. The man, who remains unidentified, was taken to a hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after he failed an attempt to perform a nose job using DIY methods seen in a YouTube video. He reportedly used 70 percent alcohol to clean the cut, didn’t wear gloves and didn’t clean the blood afterwards to avoid opening stitches, G1 reported.
The man was released after being kept under observation for a few hours.
“Home rhinoplasty” videos that also include footage of the actual surgery have become quite popular on the Internet. Doctors have warned against any attempt to perform such a complicated surgery, saying it could make a person look worse and cause serious health complications. Some of the risks associated with “home rhinoplasty” include necrosis, infection, nasal obstruction, and anaphylactic shock.
“There is a risk of necrosis, a risk of infection to use it without aseptic and non-sterile material, and a risk of blockage in the nose too large. The incisions made in rhinoplasty are well placed to avoid this risk. Needs to be very precise in defined locations,” said Rodrigo Lacerda, a plastic surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty and a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.
He added that performing the rhinoplasty procedure at home is only likely to worsen the appearance as it is not possible to do so without knowing the anatomy of the nose, which is very complex. ,
In a similar incident in 2016, a UK man underwent abdominal surgery on himself to remove eight millimeter stitches left by surgeons inside his body after an operation nearly two decades ago. As the BBC reports, when he initially tried to get dates from a surgeon, he decided to handle things after the appointment was canceled twice. Fortunately, the attempt was successful and he was able to remove the stitches without any complications.
