British filmmaker Stuart Gatt recalls watching Salman Khan starrer ‘Bharat’; calls Satyajit Ray his favourite director | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

The 54th International Film Festival of India commenced with the screening of British filmmaker Stuart Gatt‘s debut film, ‘Catching Dust.’ The film had previously been showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival in the USA and the Raindance Film Festival in the UK.
In an interview with Indian Express, Gatt revealed that he has a special connection from India because his mother is from India.Talking about his favourite filmmaker, Stuart shared that he watches a lot ofSatyajit Ray‘s works. According to him, Ray is the greatest filmmaker of all time. He studies his films and watches classics over and over again. The filmmaker also said that he recently also watched Salman Khan’s Bharat, because his friend was in it.

When queried about the possibility of making a film with Indian actors, Gatt expressed his interest, stating, he would love to make films with Indian actors. He also added that his filmmaking style is different from the prevalent style in Indian cinema.

The filmmaker also provided insights into the representation of Asians in Western movies. He noted that Indian men are often portrayed as pursuing women, and women are consistently ‘hypersexualized’ in these depictions. Gatt expressed his views on the representation of ‘desi’ individuals in Western cinema, finding it quite offensive.

He also went on to highlight the normalisation of portraying Indian men pursuing women with exaggerated accents, while Indian women are consistently hypersexualized. Gatt emphasized that there is still a long way to go in improving this representation in Western cinema.
