Vadodara: The city bus service is all set to become greener and more efficient with the deployment of 200 new electric buses in the near future. Under this, buses will run in the city National Electric Bus Program NITI Aayog and the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The bus service will be started under gross cost contract mode. Under this arrangement, the private bus operator will purchase, operate and maintain the buses.
vmc The operator will have to be paid on the basis of fixed per kilometer cost in the 12-year contract.
The bus operator will provide 200 e-buses and also develop charging infrastructure. The bus service will be operated from four depots – one in each area of ​​the city. Civil work and electrification in these depots will be provided by VMC. Apart from the depots, opportunity charging stations will also be set up in the city. The land for the depot as well as charging stations will be provided by VMC.
Tender will be done for bus service Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). He will be responsible for the entire process from tender document preparation to ordering. CESL will also undertake capacity building for VMC.
VMC will spend around Rs 60 crore on infrastructure at the depot and charging stations. It will collect fare as well as advertisement revenue from operating the buses. Mayor and Akota MLA Keyur Rokadia told media persons that the service would start in six months.
