Business-20 has an important role; Can be value-added to the world, says N Chandrasekaran – Times of India

GANDHINAGAR: The Business – 20 The Forum has a unique opportunity under India’s leadership and a very important role to play on an agenda that can be of value to all G20 countries and the rest of the world, B20 India Chair N Chandrasekaran said on Monday.
The Business 20 (B20) is the official G20 dialogue forum with the global business community. It is one of the most prominent engagement groups in the G20, with companies and business organizations as participants.
Chandrasekaran, who is also its President, addressing the B20 India Inception meeting here Tata SonsDuring India’s stewardship of the Forum, various initiatives will be taken in a number of areas including global supply chains, creative skills, circular economy, digital transformation and financial inclusion.
He said, “India is in a very unique position in the world at a time (when) we are seeing many parts moving forward, and the B20 has a unique opportunity under India’s leadership of the G20 and its Very important role.”
Chandrasekaran said the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry ,CII) has been associated with the B20 Forum in one way or the other for the last 12 years since 2010.
“So, we have had the opportunity to look at the developments and progress (of the B20) over the last few years and we have been able to relate this to the context in which the world is operating today and been able to formulate an agenda that we think very exciting and can add value to all G20 countries or indeed not only to India but to the rest of the world,” he asserted.
CII has been appointed by the Government of India as the B20 India Secretariat to lead the B20 India process. CII took over the B20 India Secretariat on December 1, 2022, as India’s term as G-20 Chair began.
Each year, the G20 Presidency appoints a B20 Chair, who is an eminent business leader from the G20 host country, who is supported by the B20 Sherpa and the B20 Secretariat.
Chandrasekaran said, “We are confident that in this period we can take a number of initiatives which can be very impactful.”
He further said that the Forum has identified nine areas, out of which seven specific task forces have been constituted and for the remaining two, working groups have been constituted.
“The seven task forces we are focusing on are all the needs of the world at this time and for decades to come,” Chandrasekaran said.
The second is on the future of work as it is getting redefined and is going to record new types of skills.
“So we’ve wrapped up the future of work and the skills needed for the 21st century, the decade ahead. Creative skills, collaborative skills and the way of working. We want to define this for the future,” he added.
The third area, he said, is about the circular economy, sustainability, energy transition, mobility, biodiversity, water management – ​​all UN sustainability goals.
The fourth area is digital transformation – India has a tremendous track record of not only the information technology industry, but also the deployment of digital in development programs and delivery of public services – which has a unique role to play, Chandrasekaran said.
“We want to show what more can be done in India as well as what we can contribute to the world at large,” he added.
Other areas that will focus during India’s leadership of the B20 include reviving the global economy and what can be done to kickstart the financial growth engine globally, R&D, financial inclusion, environment, social and Governance (ESG). task force on africa
“I am confident that this is going to be a very exciting journey for the next several months and we will not only come away with policy recommendations, but I am also confident that we will leave behind some distinguished legacy institutions that will serve to come. G-20 nations for a long time,” Chandrasekaran said.
